What is Opium?
Opium is a highly addictive narcotic drug acquired in the dried latex form from the opium poppy seed pod. Opium latex contains approximately 12% of the analgesic alkaloid morphine, which is processed chemically to produce heroin and other synthetic opioids for medicinal use and for the illegal drug trade. The effects that Opium may have on users include respiratory depression, constricted (pinpoint) pupils and nausea, mental functioning becomes clouded due to the depression of the central nervous system. The overdose may also include slow and shallow breathing, hypotension, muscle spasms, convulsions, coma, and possible death.
